what's in my image and missing in yours is the Women's House of Detention, which was torn down in the mid 70's and replaced with a park, apparently. When I lived in that area, '60-68, it was a major presence .. something you could not avoid, like all the guys hanging around in the street shouting up to their girlfriends in the prison.
Still, everytime I look at current pictures of the city, I'm blown away by how clean it all looks. NY was a crumbling garbage dump when I lived there.
